• For polished thin sections which allow for transmitted, reflected light microscopy and electron microprobe analysis a small sample of rock is required, approximately 6 x 4 x 2 cm. Half and quarter core samples are perfect. Larger blocks of rock are more expensive to freight and will incur an extra cutting charge.

  • It is advisable to label both the samples and the sample bag with the sample number and a sample list is always useful.

  • If you require the rock samples back, a freight charge will be added to the final invoice. Otherwise your samples are stored for 12 months in case you require any extra analysis. Rocks are then disposed of, but all thin sections and mounts are kept for perpetuity in a storage facility.

  • If you have specific questions that you want answered then please let us know. e.g. alteration assemblage, vein assemblages, presence of a certain mineral etc.

  • Reports are emailed as pdf files with as many photographs as is necessary to illustrate the features of the samples. If you require the photographs as separate files we can mail them on a CD or dropbox them for you.

  • Please remember that if you are sending samples from outside Australia, then quarantine/customs restrictions may apply. Please contact us for the requirements for posting rocks to Australia from other countries.
